To play the Conga Drum you need to know five basic strokes. The first stroke is played with the fingers at the rim of the drum head and is called as the open tone. The next is the muffled tone which is played in a similar manner to open tone but the finger is held against the head to muffle the sound. If the full palm of the hand is truck on the drum head a bass tone is produced. The slap makes a clear popping sound and is the most difficult skill to master in a conga drum. The last stroke is the touch.
